2013 Australian Centurion Qualifying Event

2013 saw the Australian 24 Hour Track Running Championships being held in conjunction with the Coburg 24 Hour Carnival in April so it was not an appropriate venue for us to also use this event for our annual Centurion qualifying event. With only 45 places available, we had to leave the majority of spots for the ultra runners, meaning that the walk division could only be a numerically small affair.
So a decision was made to hold our main 2013 qualifying event on a road circuit at Middle Park in inner Melbourne on 14-15 September 2013. The Victorian Race Walking Club, of which I am secretary, hosted the event which proved to be a great success.
As per current practice, this year's Centurions 24 Hour Walk event included Racewalking Australia 100 km Walk Championships for men and women. These additional championships are run under the auspices of Racewalking Australia but are judged according to Centurion rules rather than the stricter racewalking rules.
The 24 Hour walk race was held on a fully
bitumenised, flat, traffic free 1.25km course at Middle Park
on the service roads within the Albert Park domain.
