I started race walking at school in 1966 but gave it away to study and did not return to it until 1973 at age 22. I competed until forced to retire with recurrent knee injuries in 1983. In the intervening period, I had a great time and became a Centurion along the way. My best times were as follows

1500m 5:36
3000m           11:53   
10 Km 42:32
20 Km 87:12
30 Km 2:15:47
50 Km 4:03:17
100 Miles  22:10:27 

Major career highlights included

  • Australian 50 Km Champion
  • British 50 Km Champion
  • 1978 and 1982 Commonwealth Games representations
  • 1979 and 1983 Lugano Cup representations
  • Represented Australia at the IAAF World 50 Km Championships in 1976
  • Became Australian Centurion Number 13 in 1976

I also dabbled in competitive cycling, running and triathlons with some success upon retiring from top-line racewalking but I won't bore you with the details. I still have the occasional walk but am happy to put back into the sport as an administrator rather than to compete. I am married with 4 grown up boys (ranging in age from 26 to 33) and live with my wife Lois in Melbourne. I am currently the secretary of the Australian Centurion Walkers and maintain these pages. I am have my fingers in a lot of other sports related pies and look after a number of websites as well.

By profession, I worked in the IT field as a 'Middleware' consultant and dabbled with software on mainframe, midrange and Windows computers for a living but I have now retired and am enjoying a new lease of life after work!
